Itinerary

Day 1Cusco to Soraypampa

Early morning departure from Cusco towards Mollepata, where we’ll stop for a delicious breakfast. Then, we’ll continue our journey to Challacancha, the starting point of our trek.

The trail will lead us through breathtaking landscapes and diverse ecosystems as we ascend towards Soraypampa, our campsite for the night.

Along the way, we’ll have the opportunity to admire the stunning Humantay Lake and its shimmering turquoise waters.

Distance: 12 kilometers (7.5 miles). Elevation gain: 1,200 meters (3,937 feet). Approximate trekking time: 6-7 hours.

Day 2Soraypampa to Chaullay

After a nourishing breakfast, we’ll start our trek towards Salkantay Pass, the highest point of our journey at an elevation of 4,650 meters (15,256 feet).

From here, we’ll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of snow-capped mountains and the surrounding valleys.

We’ll then descend towards Huayracmachay for lunch, before continuing our trek to Chaullay, where we’ll set up our camp for the night.

Distance: 22 kilometers (13.7 miles). Elevation gain: 400 meters (1,312 feet) and elevation loss: 1,900 meters (6,234 feet). Approximate trekking time: 9-10 hours.

Day 3Chaullay to Aguas Calientes

Today, we’ll venture into the lush cloud forest, passing through picturesque villages and witnessing the diverse flora and fauna along the way.

We’ll hike along the Santa Teresa River, crossing suspension bridges and enjoying the tranquility of the surroundings. Our trek will lead us to the hydroelectric station, where we’ll board a train to Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu.

Upon arrival, we’ll settle into our accommodation and have the opportunity to relax and explore the charming town.

Distance: 18 kilometers (11.2 miles). Elevation loss: 800 meters (2,625 feet). Approximate trekking time: 6-7 hours.

Day 4Machu Picchu

The highlight of our journey awaits as we make our way to the majestic Machu Picchu. We’ll wake up early to catch the first bus to the archaeological site, where we’ll witness the sunrise over the ancient ruins.

Our knowledgeable guide will lead us through the intricate stone pathways, revealing the secrets and history of this incredible Incan citadel.

After the guided tour, you’ll have free time to explore and soak in the mystical atmosphere of Machu Picchu. In the afternoon, we’ll descend to Aguas Calientes and board the train back to Cusco. Approximate visit to Machu Picchu: 2-3 hours.
